“The Adventures of Pseudolus”
Using the Puzzlescript engine I made a very basic game for work to promote our play, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Give it a play: http://www.shakespearetheatre.org/forumgame/
Puzzlescript is rather limited in what it’ll allow you to do but for someone like myself who doesn’t have a ton of programming experience it was an awesome tool for making (and actually finishing) a game in a fairly short amount of time.
At first I was disheartened that Puzzlescript has an object limit– you can only have so many objects written into the game, including player character views, walls, etc — but it forced me to be super tight with the design and kept me from running away with crazy ideas.
It’s only ten levels and in the final level I introduce a new mechanic that I don’t really do much with, but I hope it’s a fun little puzzle game. Thank you to the Puzzlescript community for giving me tips along the way and for putting up their game code so I could see how they programmed more complex ideas. Also, thank you to Stephen Lavelle for creating such an easy-to-use engine. I hope everyone has fun with it (and that it sells some tickets to the show).
